World Cup King may not take his throne

Ledley King is a major doubt for the World Cup with Sven Goran Eriksson still waiting on the fitness of some key players for his final World Cup squad.
This could mean a shock call to Sol Campbell whose form has been less than stellar this season, with fears about his health Sven will have a difficult job to make sure he can get the best out of the ex-Tottenham player.

Speaking yesterday Sven was speaking to Sky Sports news.
If all of them were fit, 100 percent, then I would be almost sure of up to 21 or 22 of them. . . . ”

“But what I have to deal with from now until May 8 (the day after the last Premier League matches) and May 15, when the final squad must be announced to FIFA, is the injury situation.

“Our doctor is travelling to different clubs, he went to Charlton yesterday and to Tottenham on Wednesday to check the situations. We’ll know when the league finishes exactly what to do.

“Of course, it’s a worry. Take Ledley King for example, he won’t play more football this season, we’ll have to take a decision on when he is going to be fit and in full training, how long it will take.

“I’m very happy Sol Campbell is playing tonight (in Arsenal’s Champions League match against Villarreal) and I think Michael Owen will sit on the (Newcastle United) bench, hopefully have some minutes this coming weekend. It’s a rather good situation.”

King would be very disappointed to lose his World Cup place but he could take small comfort that he would be fresh for a European Campaign that awaits Spurs next season.
