Ramos, Capello, Lippi, Mourinho - not Hughes!

Jol, still Spurs Manager?
By glenda October 23 2007
.We have been linked with Ramos, Capello, Lippi, Mourinho - Surely we are not going to end up with the relative nonentity, Mark Hughes! His CV is no better than Jols's. The other managers are all proven winners. Mark Hughes has not won anything. He was a failure at Wales. By 'failure' I mean he failed to achieve what must have been his major objective - to qualify for a major tournament.

In fact, Wales were in a good position but blew it, Jol-fashion, at the closing stages. Blackburn have not won anything either. They have achieved reasonable finishes  - again, Jol-style. They play the same sort of unattractive football I suspect that  Jol prefers

We are a soft touch at the moment, so we need a hard man whose team are not soft, ergo Hughes is our man. Wrong! You don't make a long term appointment to fix a short term problem. Newcastle did that with Graham Souness. It doesn't work!

Hughes has performed at around par so far in his managerial career. He has not over-achieved at Blackburn or Wales, given the cirucmstances.  We need a top manager who has performed at the highest level, not someone who has just done OK at a medium sized club. We don't need another Gerry Francis. We need a proven winner.

If we can't get the right man at the moment, we should go for a caretaker until our man becomes available.

Are we really capable or big enough to attract one of the big names of world football?

That's the question.

What a silly statement to make about Hughes

Hughes has worked wonders with Blackburn

he has good width in his team

they are hard to beat

They play good football and they have a good balance

Give me Hughes over Jol anyday

He mat be better than Jol ( he may not } but that's not the point. He is not better than the other managers mentioned and he is not good enough.

How has he worked wonders with Blackburn ? He has done okay just like Jol with his two top 5 finishes. He has not really set the world alight. The same applies to his performance with Wale, he started okay but ultimately failed.

He has not had the Money that Jol has had

Blackburn dont win one game in ten

Why would the other managers mentioned come to us

They have spent a fair bit, overall his record is worse than Jol's. I don't think either are good enough. If it was a straight choice between the two I would plump for Hughes.

Cappelo, Lippi and Klinsmann are all out of work. We need a winner.
