Match Report – Halifax Town
By Webmaster
September 20 2002
The Seals were unable to break the deadlock against Halifax Town at the Shay on Tuesday night and have now drew 4 of their 9 nationwide conference games 0-0.

Chester City – W.Browo, Guyett, Ruffer, Bolland, Harkness, Woodyatt, Kelly, McIntyre, M.Brown, Twiss, Sugden.

Injured Wayne Hatswell was replaced by Phil Bolland in the City back 3 as the defender has two broken hands. Lee Woodyatt also made a return to the starting 11. Dave Cameron was not included in the city squad even though his 3 match ban has expired.

Chester began brightly and controlled the first 45 minutes without creating too many clear cut chances. The Shayman’s keeper was Halifax’s hero as he palmed away 3 or 4 long range efforts.

Michael Twiss made space for himself but couldn’t beat the Halifax keeper from 15 yards. Jimmy Kelly was also unlucky in the half but seen his strike fly a foot wide.

Wayne Brown in the Chester City goal was rarely called into action and notched up his 7th clean sheet of the season.

In the second half City were unable to continue with the pressure they had in the first half but were never on the back foot against a more adventurous Halifax Town.

Halfway through the second 45 minutes Chester had a host of corners but again were unable to convert anything. The 400 – 500 Chester fans who made the trip to south west Yorkshire were becoming more and more frustrated as the game aged and another poor performance by the referee didn’t help.

With 10 minutes remaining Chester through everything forward and were turned down a penalty when Micky Brown went down in the area. The game was waved on.

At the final whistle their were mixed feeling after another faultless defensive performance and another shot shy attack.
