Match Report – Hereford United
By Webmaster
September 18 2002
Chester City were unable capitalise on Doncaster Rovers midweek loss and remained in second position. The Seals played out a 0-0 draw with a very physical Hereford United side at Edgar Street. City seemed comfortable for 70 minutes but found themselves hanging on for the final 15.

Chester City - W. Brown, Ruffer, Guyett, Hatswell, Carden, McIntyre, Blackburn, Kelly, M. Brown, Twiss, Beesley

If the Hereford United manager was refereeing this encounter he wouldn’t of been half as biased as yesterday’s whistle blower. Both the referee and his assistant were well below par and to put it plainly they didn’t give the game a chance of blossoming into what it could have been.

Don’t get me wrong City created few chances and didn’t deserve the three points but whenever any momentum was created, Mr Tanner would stop the game. The game wasn’t allowed to flow and was ruined as a spectacle.

Wright opted for Micky Brown in midfield after his impressive performances in recent game. Mark Beesley accompanied Michael Twiss in the front line.

Chester were comfortable throughout the first 45 minutes without threatening the Hereford goal. Wayne Brown also had little to do in the first half. 8 yellow cards were issued, 6 for Chester and 2 for Hereford in an uneventful game.

Things got slightly more watch able in the second and City had a hand ball appeal turned down in a goal mouth scramble. Hereford pushed forward in the last 15 but were unable to convert a winner.
