Rushden Preview
By Nick Richardson
August 5 2005
The Quakers head to Nene Park for the first game of the 2005/2006 season on Saturday. Darlo will be looking to get off to a good start in what their fans hope to be a highly successful campaign.
RUSHDEN AND DIAMONDS FC Vs DARLINGTON FC, SAT 6 AUG 05, 3.00PM NENE PARK, IRTHLINGBROUGH

This time last year, Darlington fans didn't quite know what to expect. We had no strikers and our financial situation was still somewhat precarious.

This year, however, is a different matter. David Hodgson has made numerous changes to the squad since this time last year and the fans are expectant of a highly successful season.

The bookies are with the Quakers fans, tipping the North-East outfit as promotion contenders. Darlington's opponents, Rushden and Diamonds, however, have been tipped as relegation candidates by other fans and Bookmakers alike. Their own supporters and management remain optomistic that their team will go one step better than last season's mad scramble to secure league status, however, and finish higher than everyone else expects.

Darlington go into the match with no fresh injury worries. Brian Close and Clark Keltie are both absent due to long term injuries and David Duke has an over-hanging suspension from last season to carry out but, other than that, Darlington have a full squad to pick from.

Rushden are facing problems, however. Key player Andy Burgess broke his leg in a friendly last week and will be sorely missed at Nene Park. The Diamonds are experiencing frailties in the midfield which Darlington will no doubt be looking to capitalise on.
