January 10 2003
A moment of magic from Patrick McCourt 10 minutes from time secured Rochdale's place in the next round of the FA Cup as they beat Bristol Rovers 3-2 at Spotland.
The Gas could count them selves as unlucky as they crash out of the FA cup after a brave performance against the division 3 promotion contenders.

The first goal came from Rovers when Adam Barrett headed home from a corner.

Rochdale equalised after 34 minutes as Clive Platt headed past Scott Howie.

The second half got off to a lively start as Paul Connor volleyed Rochdale ahead in the 47th minute.

Rovers bounced back three minutes later when Paul Tait fired home. 2-2

The game looked to be heading to extra time but for a fantastic strike which was struck superbly and put 'Dale in front which eventually won the game for them.
