Hoddle
Glenn Hoddle finally signed on the dotted line over the weekend after months of speculation. Chief Executive Jez Moxey, Chairman Rick Hayward and Glenn himself all turned out to a packed press conference to confirm the completion of the deal.
It was announced that Hoddle had signed a 12-month rolling contract, but what exactly does this mean?
What Is It?
It was popular opinion after the unveiling of Hoddle on Monday that his contract would expire at the end of the season and negotiations would have to start all over again.
However the rolling contract means that Glenn Hoddle will always have 12 months left on his contract. It is only impossible for his contract to run out if both Wolves and Hoddle agree on a termination.
So for example, this time next year assuming both party's are happy with the working conditions then Glenn Hoddle will still have twelve months remaining on his contract.
Why?
The basis of a 12 month rolling contract is that should Wolves need to sack Hoddle then they would only need to pay off the remainder of his contract (12 months). In the past when a manager has been sacked, Wolves have had to pay huge sums of cash as compensation. Former boss Dave Jones a testament to this as Wolves had to pay him compensation for the remaining 18 months of his contract.
Who Else?
Albions boss Bryan Robson, QPR boss Ian Holloway and Walsall's Paul Merson are all currently on rolling contracts.
