ALEX HANDS WOLVES RAE OF HOPE |
27th September 2003| Bolton 1 Wolves 1 (Rae) |
| A wonder strike from Alex Rae looked to have handed Wolves their first Premiership win of the season but Davies leveled the game 5 minutes from time to hand either side a point. | |

Dave Jones made 5 changes from the side which beat Darlington at Molineux mid-week. Michael Oakes returned in goal for the injured Matt Murray, Denis Irwin replaced Oleg Luzhny, Butler replaced Isaac Okoroknwo, Shaun Newton replaced Silas and Paul Ince replaced Joey Gudjonsson. Wolves started the brighter of the two sides and it was the Bolton Keeper who saved the day in the 13th minute. Jaaskelainen beat Mark Kennedy to a Colin Cameron through ball which was heading towards goal and Steffen Iversen hit a snap-shot over the bar from 30yrds 5 minutes later. Wolves were playing the game as they did in the same spirit against Manchester United but Oaked made a superb point-blank save from Davies on the 25 Minute mark. On the 30 minute mark, Wolves scored their second goal of the season and what a superb strike it was. Kennedy`s corner was flicked out of the area by Okocha, but his clearance only fell as far as Alex Rae who unleashed an unstoppable 25yrd Volley into the top corner of the net. Ince had a fine shot saved by the Bolton Keeper 5 minutes before half time and it was Wolves who were on top when the half time whistle blew. HT: Bolton 0 Wolves 1 The second half was an exact opposite to the first as Bolton were the better team and had Wolves pinned back for most of the half. Bolton had a few good chanced to level the game, but every attempt failed to test Oakes in the Wolves goal before Wolves were denied a second. On 25 Minutes, Jaaskelainen and Cameron collided on the edge of the area and as the ball looped up in the air, Miller struck a superb 40yrd volley which was somehow cleared off the line by Charlton. Oakes then made two superb saves, first from Okocha, then from Thome however Wolves defence was finally breached 5 minutes from time. A mistake by Lee Naylor allowed Davies the time to shoot and earn a point for both sides. FT:
