| Wolves poor start to the Premiership Season continued at Southampton`s St Marys Stadium, although a refereeing decision, which has to be seen to be believed changed the outcome of the match. | |

Mark Kennedy made his first Premiership appearance for Wolves in a midfield which also included Paul Ince, Alex Rae, Shaun Newton and Colin Cameron. Nathan Blake was once again played as the lone striker, Oakes continued in goal and the back line included only one summer signing, Jody Craddock, along with Butler, Irwin and Lee Naylor. The Wolves fans were in their usual party spirit, and Wolves started the brighter in the early stages, but as per usual, failed to test the Saints Keeper. Next, a lesson for the Wolves fans in "Things Not To Sing". * Do not sing "If Beattie plays for England so can I" Why? Because the English International striker scored two goals, dumping Wolves to their fourth defeat of the season - with just 5 games being played. On 37 minutes, referee, Rennie, awarded a Penalty to the Saints. `What for` is still open to discussion as Phillips "fell over" in the box without any contact. Beattie slotted the ball home convincingly and that all important first goal had again come from the opposition. Blake wasted a good opportunity towards the end of the half, but at the break, the Saints were in full control. HT: Southampton 1 Wolves 0 Blaming the Referee is not ideal, but the penalty decision is so poor that it does give Jones an excuse, or at least it did for a while. You can blame the ref when you lose by a dodgy goal, but on 52 Minutes Wolves had no excuses as Beattie scored his second of the match, his fourth of the season. Kevin Phillips managed to stay on his feet and played a through-ball to the Beattie who lashed a hard drive into the roof of the net from 18yrds. The game was now as good as over, Silas replaced Cameron, Iversen replaced Newton and Gudjonsson replaced Rae - Neither could change the game, which had by now gone flat, dull and boring. Things don`t get much easier for Wolves, its another game without scoring, its Chelsea next, its a worry, its not a warm welcome to the Premiership. FT: Southampton 2 Wolves 0
