Match Thread: Watford FC vs Wolves

?Players of the Season?

By Wolves
April 27 2019

Wolves face Watford for the third time this season having failed to win either of the previous two matches, and knowing this is a battle for 7th place in the Premier League, and a chance to play in Europe next season.

Despite Nuno Espirito Santo denying any perception of revenge for their FA Cup semi-final defeat, and his continued mantra that Wolves only think about the next game, his players will surely know that today they face a team who have beaten them twice this season and are also fighting to finish in 7th place. Nuno undoubtedly admires Manager Javi Gracia for his achievements at Watford this season - after so many predecessors have failed - but will be setting his team up to win, and hoping that the superb midweek win over Arsenal will spur his team on today.

This board will endeavour to follow the match today and keep members who are unable to do so abreast of play. Board members are also encouraged to post their views, observations and opinions on here.

Nuno keeps absolute faith with the starting eleven and subs from Wednesday night and makes no changes for today's game.

Line-up: Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Dendoncker, Neves, Moutinho, Jonny, Jimnez, Jota

Subs: Ruddy, Saiss, Vinagre, Gibbs-White, Cavaleiro, Costa, Traore

Referee for today's game is Simon Hooper who is having his first season in the Premier League

Just hoping that the search for revenge doesn’t spoil the game plan.
Would be nice if Raul netted a couple.

Ivybridge Wolf

Glad he's kept it the same ... obviously it'll be different today, very tough I expect, but the players chose themselves. Additionally, the shape did faulter a little after the subs on Wednesday.

Everything crossed for a win today - UTW!

Afternoon lads nice to know you are out there! I agree Ivy about the poor shape following substitutions on Weds - Cavaleiro and Traore may - I say may - present an attacking threat, but do very little defending from the front in the way Raul & Jota do.
I think both sides will play it cagey today

Lupy
27/04/2019 15:05
Deloufeo looking lively.

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:07
All the play so far in Watford half, & Wolves putting together some very neat passing. My wi-if is dropping out so I may lose touch intermittently

Lupy

Corner won by Jonny’s persistence.

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:09
Jonny takes a right footed shot following a corner he earned, but it goes very wide

Lupy
27/04/2019 15:11
Jota already bossing their defenders.

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:12
Jonny and Jota both had very good games on Weds and are looking lively again today. I wasn't aware Watford's Andre Gray was a W'hampton lad and was rejected by Wolves as a 13 yr old!

Lupy
27/04/2019 15:13
Both teams looking confident.
First goal may be crucial.

Fine tuned match ay it?!

Promising stuff from both sides. On the plus, Jota looks sharp

Patricio kicking is very suspect

I sometimes wonder whether Rui has fully adapted to the speed at which PL games are played

Ivybridge Wolf

Lovely long range Neves but comfortable for Foster

Good strike by Neves well taken by Foster

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:25
Watford ding their best to irritate our fans with their songs about Wembley!!

Lupy
27/04/2019 15:27
Not much between the teams at present.

Lupy
27/04/2019 15:28
Neither goalie has been tested yet.

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:31
Rui gives away a needless corner but then puts a splendid ball out to Raul which Foster has to come & clear. Otherwise it's a very cagey game so far

Wolves so close. Cleared off the line.

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:35
How did that not cross the line???!!! Great break by Jota then Leander to Raul but cleared just short of the line!!

Lupy
27/04/2019 15:37
Great run by Jota who wins a corner

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:38
Great to see Diogo Jota tying 2 defenders in knots so they concede a corner. Neves attempts another beauty

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:39
Good defending by Bennett to deny Delafeu

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 15:41
Well worked set piece by W'ford from the corner but Hughes heads it over

Ivybridge Wolf

I was just going to ask, ‘how many times have we seen the Jota-combination’?!!

Good goal

Half time and we are one up.

Ivybridge Wolf
27/04/2019 15:48
Good half. Some great defending from our lads!

One minute added time played and half time whistle goes. A fairly even game but overall I think Wolves have played the better football and deserve their 1 - 0 lead through a Raul header after great work by Neves & Jota

Ivybridge Wolf
27/04/2019 15:51
For those inclined, Molineaux, owned by Wolves fans, is running in the 4.40 at Sandown.

Bennett nightmare of an error

Absolute gift despite Rui’s best efforts

Dreadful

Watford getting up a head of steam now.

Ivybridge Wolf
27/04/2019 16:12
Feel sorry for Bennett. It was truly awful. This compared to at least 2 magnificent defensive challenges v Arsenal and a very decent first half.

We are now looking a little more composed, great cross from the Doc but Jota just gets under the header from 10 yards

27/04/2019 16:19
First yellow card goes to Joao

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 16:21
And the second of the game goes to Cholevas for a forearm smash on Jota

Watford’s defenders getting a bit dozy so need to take advantage.

Ivybridge Wolf
27/04/2019 16:24
Nice attack from Wolves, lovely ball from Moutinho, great cross from Jota and an important defensive header. Then another Jota-Jiminez combination but the latter marginally offside.

It’s edgy stuff

Coady stops a Hughes shot with part of his body but not sure which part!! Beautiful link play between Jota & Raul but just evades Jota after final pass. Hughes replaced by Kabaseli

Cheshire wolf
27/04/2019 16:34
Joao shoots from edge of area just over the bar for a corner

Two minutes plus added time to play. Watford have lost their rhythm, but still dangerous as we know to our cost. 5 added minutes expected

Providing the oil rig win the cup, finishing 7th and getting into Europe would be a fantastic achievement equalling anything I can remember in my lifetime of watching wolves. The constant references to the Sherpa van are cringeworthy and embarrassing in 1988 or whatever it was called- this would be a true accomplishment

That reminds me. I went to the pet shop and asked for a wasp. The assistant said, "we don't sell wasps"". I said, "well, you've got one in the window".
I'm here till next Tuesday, tell your friends.
