Match Thread: Wolves vs Newcastle United

Rafa and Nuno

By Wolves
February 11 2019

Wolves hope to compete their second 'double' of the season tonight when they face Newcastle at Molineux, having won a difficult game at St James Park in December

The squad have returned from a five day 'warm weather training camp' in Marbella, Spain which - unsurprisingly - is reported to have been a successful and useful venture. Nuno has a fully fit first team squad to pick from, although it would be reasonable to presume the same starting eleven from the excellent victory at Everton will start again tonight, with impact subs on the bench. Meanwhile it is also expected that Rafa Benitez will start with his new signing Miguel Almiron on the bench, whilst several of his previously injured squad are also fit to start.

The game kicks off at 7:45pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports. Board members are encouraged to share their observations on this thread for the benefit of those who cannot view it.

As expected Wolves field an unchanged line-up:

Patrício, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Dendoncker, Neves, Jonny, Moutinho, Jota, Jiménez

Substitutes: Ruddy, Saïss, Vinagre, Morgan Gibbs, Hélder Costa, Cavaleiro, Traoré

Good to see Jota is fit and back into the usual starting eleven.
Won’t be an easy game but I think we have enough to edge it.
They have just had a holiday in the sun so they should be raring to go.

Our referee tonight is Graham Scott. I don't recall him reffing a game of ours for quite a while

Rousing chorus of Nuno Had A Dream goes round the ground.
Jonny put a good cross in for Jimenez bug just evades him.
Good effort by Rondon, then Longstaff steps on Joao's foot

Raul almost gets a chance but loses control.
Utd are playing same formation as Wolves and having their share of possession

Great play by Jonny - Raul well tackled by Atsu in the area but the crowd want a penalty!

Raul should have converted a Doc cross but skied it.
Jota plays very well to get a corner

Half time and there's no score
Pretty even on balance although I think Wolves have gone closer to scoring & have brought out some good saves by Dubravka. Utd have put some good play together, and will be no push ove. Their antics or falling over are irritating to say the least.

No changes las we start second half.
Doc & Raul link up very well & get a corner. Doc should have headed it in but it goes over due to good pressure from Longstaffe

Traore being prepared. We are now looking to get a draw if we can!
Traore replaces Doherty who hasn't been as effective as usual tonight
Raul heads well wide after a melee in the box

Willy Boly!!!!
He scored with a header in the 95th minute after a deep cross by Traore!!
That’s it we have saved a point we probably deserved

Happy days lol, not our best performance but fair play for persistence!
Im sure Rafa will be moaning as per usual!

As for Wolves - we need a striker - he doesnt have to be a superstar - just a poacher.

Well, well, well. Another late show!
We do keep going don’t we?
I thought we edged the first half but we were so disjointed in the second and just never got going.
Whilst I do feel for the Toon fans I am delighted with our last seconds equaliser, which I felt was as much about Big Willy’s strength than it was about their keepers weakness. I know Newcastle will dispute but I didn’t think it was a foul.
As for Patricio, more than a bit of a blooper from him as well.
Overall ..... phew!! Another point to the total, achieved in Nuno time!!
