Match Thread: Wolves vs QPR

By Wolves
February 10 2018

Wolves welcome Queens Park Rangers to Molineux today, and expect an almost full house for the match.

Today Wolves take on one of only four Championship teams to have beaten them this season. Queens Park Rangers won 2 -1 at Loftus Road in October. Perhaps as expected Wolves field the same staring line-up as for the defeat of Sheffield United last week, but the notable exceotion is that Leo Bonatini is replaced on the subs bench by Rafa Mir.

Reports are that Saiss has been struggling with a hamstring injury, and Bonatini picked up a knock in training yesterday.

First shot of the game is by QPR after N'Daiye loses possession, but is easily collected by Ruddy

Wolves lose possession in midfield again and one pass leads to another shot at Ruddy which concedes a corner. Came to nothing.
QPR are playing five at the back, so we will need some creative play from our forwards.

Brilliant pass (on outside of his foot) to Cavaleiro feeds him onto penalty area, He passes to Jota, but the keeper just manages to intervene.

Wolves are totally in control here. Cavaleiro is having a field day down the left wing and Neves is making his usual variety of superb passes to set up attacks.

Ruddy makes a great save from the corner after our defence switch off, but QPR manage to put it in the net

Wolves 2 QPR 1

Better play from Wolves leads to a corner. looks like the fans are going to get what they're calling for and Afobe will come on.

Afobe replaces Cavaleiro, which must be hard for Cav as he's had a good game

N'Daiye loses the ball once again this afternoon, and Ruddy has to make a good save. N'Daiye seems to avoid the simple pass and cocks up the more difficult option.

Wolves have been struggling strangely for past few minutes. Afobe limping for a while but seems OK. Gibbs White replaces Costa

Great work by Afobe to set up Doc but goes wide. Then Jota sets up Afobe and he should have scored. Gibbs-White well involved already

Attendance today 30,130

Afobe's touch lets him down on the edge of the box after being set up by Jota again

All getting a bit nervous it seems. Ruddy fumbles and gives a corner away unusually but it's all cleared.

Ruddy and Coady to the rescue after a break by Washington. Careless play has been a feature of Wolves this afternoon, lets hope it doesn't cost us. Two minutes time to be added on.

Final whistle blown. Wolves made very hard work of getting three points today, playing really well and appearing totally comfortable in the first half, but letting QPR in early in the second half. Lots of sloppy play and mistakes from our team today unusually, but in the end it's another three points. Derby and Bristol City drawing at the moment which will give Villa an opportunity to advance against Brum tomorrow

As tight this performance and win turned out to be, another vital 3 points when our rivals trip up just a little. I said after Reading away, it takes all sorts of matches to get promotion, this is another. Trouble is we should have been out of sight at HT.

71 points!! Utterly superb! 4 points to guarantee a play off place.

Cheers for the updates Chesh, UTW!!

Thanks for the updates Cheshire Wolf and Happy Birthday Ivy!

It sounded like we took out foot off the pedal somewhat in the second half.
However, as Ivy said, wins and performances come in all shapes and sizes.

JUst seen a clip on the tube of Jota taking a slap from one of the QPR players, anyone know if the FA will take retrospective action or if Jota did anything to start it?

Cheers

No TT but it was picked up by the commentator on the OS, He saw no reason for the assault, and the feeling at the time was that it should be referred for a second opinion as the ref didn't see it either.
