Match Thread: Wolves V Bristol Rover(CC 3 R, Home, 19/09/17)

Bristol Rovers Visit Molinuex today in the third round of the Carabao Cup looking to cause an upset. It has been a while since Wolves went any further than round three so would be nice if they could get past this tricky little fixture.

Match Facts

  • Wolves have faced Bristol Rovers just once in the League Cup, a fourth-round victory in October 1972 on their way to their first-ever semi-final in the competition.
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers have progressed past lower league opposition in 11 of their last 12 League Cup games at the Molineux, although the last seven have been against League Two sides.
  • The third round is the furthest Bristol Rovers have been in the League Cup since they lost to Wolves in the fourth round in 1972/73.
  • Wolves haven't reached the fourth round as a second-tier side since 1995-96, eventually reaching the quarter-final.
  • After seven successive away losses to opposition from a higher tier, the Gas defeated Fulham in the last round; they haven't knocked out two higher-league sides since 1972/73, when they knocked out three (Cardiff, Brighton and Manchester United).

Thanks for the background info Badge. Could be an interesting evening - firstly avoiding the inevitable banana skin outcome, whilst also hoping our 'second team' can achieve a significant win goalwise

Looking forward to it, like Chesh says we've got to avoid the banana skin though, I would hope that we will still have too much firepower for them though

Energetic start from Wolves so far, Zyro has put one over the bar and had another shot saved. Bright is working hard upfront too.

No score yet and Rovers appear to be gaining in confidence by keeping Wolves out so far.

No added time at the end of first half. Rovers had a couple of shots, one of which brought out a save from Norris.

No changes for second half.
Bright has a good shot but still fails to score when it's saved

Zyro has hardly touched the ball in second half and is now knackered - replaced by Cabaleiro. Marshall replaced by Conor Ronan. Barry Douglas also on but I can't remember who for!!

Thanks Badge. Souinds like a really good save made by Norris after N'Daiye gave the ball away. Hope we haven't used all our subs too early, as extra time is a possibility

Into extra time. One extra sub per team. Wolves have replaced Rasmussen with Donovan Wilson, Presumably Ronan will now play at right wing back

Jack Price & Rovers captain get involved in handbags. N'Daiye steps in as Price's minder, and both Wolves players get a yellow card!!

Rovers haven't given up on this match yet, still attacking us, and we are sitting too deep so inviting their attacks.

All over after 120 minutes. Not as easy a victory as I'm sure many of us would have expected, but nevertheless it's a victory and we are in the 4th round after many years.
