Season 1889/90

Brodie Scored 5 At Stoke

By Badge32

The second season of the Football league saw Wolves finish in fourth spot. They did have a few spells where they topped the table but a poor run over the Christmas and New Year period saw them tumble down the table. They did manage to win two games by an eight goal margin. Burnley was thumped 9-1 in the league while Stoke regretted wanting a re-match in the cup as they was thrashed 8-0. Brodie broke the club recored for most goals in a game following his five goal haul in the Stoke win. Wolves made it to the Semi-Finals of the F.A.Cup where they lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers.

Home games in Bold

N = Neutral Ground

* = This third round tie was played in driving sleet and rain on a heavy pitch and Wolves won the match 4–0. Stoke protested over the state of the pitch and the FA ordered a re-match the following Saturday which turned out to be an embarrassment to Stoke's officials.

This is part three of the seasons. I did not plan to announce them on the forum pages but it is recommended by sportsnetwork to try and help boost revenue. Please take a few minutes to read some of the other parts and leave some comments.

Interesting to see the crowd attendance for those games and not one London side in sight!

Obviously we can't guarantee they are 100% accurate which is a shame.

Very interesting, good work Badge. I suspect the methods of calculating crowd numbers back in those days weren't much more advanced than simply glancing round the stadium making an educated guess as they all seem to be rounded up to the nearest thousand bar the odd game.

I wonder if they employed the 'tickets sold' method rather than those who actually attended?!

By the way, good stuff Badge

Wonder if there were any ancestors of Moxey and Morgan involved?
