Striker Liam McAlinden has signed a new two-year contract with the Sky Bet League One champions. McAlinden rose through the youth ranks at Molineux, having joined the club aged eight years old, and this season made his breakthrough into the first-team squad.

The 20-year-old has made nine appearances, two of them starts, for Wanderers since making his debut in the final home game of last season against Burnley.

McAlinden was capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level during the current campaign, but the highlight of his year was when he headed home the winning goal in front of a mass away following as Wolves beat MK Dons last month to enhance their promotion chances.

"Scoring that goal was a tremendous feeling - something that I'll never forget," McAlinden told the club's official website.

"When I was offered a new deal by the club I didn't have to think twice. I've been here for a long time now - 12 years - and I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"The gaffer really knows the game and I am learning a lot from him. It's great that we have been promoted and hopefully I'll play my part in us having a good year when we return to the Championship next season.

"Everyone dreams about playing in the Premier League and I'd love to be able to do that with Wolves."

Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett added: "I'm very pleased that Liam has agreed to spend his near future with Wolves.

"Everyone at the club believes that he has a good future here. He has got stronger and quicker and has improved immensely.

"I believe he will continue to improve and be a real force for the club."
