3 Games in, 3 Points on the board

Mick McCarthy
By Simon Garner
August 25 2009
Well we are already 3 games into the new season and so far we have got 3 points from our first 3 games.

I for one am proud at the work levels, commitment, everything that everyone at the club has done so far. It seems to me that Mick McCarthy has got his tactics spot on, we are still playing some good football but not conceeding many goals (so far!) Long may it continue.

I would just like to add a note of praise to a certain Andy Keogh. He is so far proving a lot of his doubters wrong with his performances of late. Well done Andy, you deserve some praise rather than the usual rubbish that comes your way!

very pleased. on average 3 points every 3 games will keep us up !! grinning smiley playing very well and confidence is high. we have been to some tricky places already and played some very good teams. 2 away games and 1 home. 3 points is more than good enough.
the big game is on saturday, must win !!! i would also like to see a few more players come in as although to sqaud is good, it is not good enough yet. need another winger and a striker.

Second that, 'Proud' is the exact word I would use!

Even if we did (dare I say it) go down, if we keep this up all year I would continue to think along the same lines.

Well done to everyone at the club.

Very happy with the start of the season..i was over for the city game at the wend abd thought we played great in the second half....Hull is a very important game saturday as we need to be picking up full points at home against the likes of Hull..
Just a comment about Man City - i think they are going to give some teams a right hammering at home...5 or 6 nil material...

I think it is very hard to judge from our first games how far we've come. West Ham and Wigan haven't impressed since we played them, Man City are still getting it together.

It is a very promising start though. Last time we were in the prem the gulf in class was evident from the very beginning when we suffered high scoring defeats in our opening matches - it doesn't look that way this time.

Survival will mean taking points from our home matches, and we have a tendancy to be consistently inconsistent at Molineux! I know many would prefer us not to be distracted by the Carling Cup, but I would like to see two strong home performances back-to-back against Swindon and Hull. Neither will be easy, for sure!

Oh and yes, I'm proud of the effort and encouraged by the quality of football played so far. Keogh deserves praise and I'm amused that he is apparently transforming himself from daft muppet to loveable moppet before our very eyes!

I think MM's management will be the deciding factor, fingers crossed he can keep it all together this time around.

I agree on the MM verdict Risca, i think that the only thing that will be MM down fall is his pride, i just hope that come the xmas period if we have a poor few results and the flak starts flying that big Micks pride does'nt bring him down. We have something great happening at Wolves from the top all the way through to the tea lady and we need to hold onto everyone because i believe that there are some good times round the corner, if we survive or not i still believe good things will happen.

i was quite embarassed watching the 1st 45 minutes of the man city game.city could have been over the hills and far away but for theit failure in front of goal.
where was the get in their faces that we did at wigan?
i was encouraged with the 2nd half, which is what is required in this league.
burnly have got results by having a real go, as we did in the 2nd half.anything short of that isn't going to be good enough.
si,i'm a little disappointed you think that what has been said by those of us that didn't rate keogh was rubbish that comes his way.
he has been excellent this season and i have said so in another thread.that doesn't mean that i or others were wrong about his performances when we didn't rate him at all.
he has turned his game around, although i see his future will be coming of the bench.
i'm pleased to see the improvement because its good for wolves, which is the first and only considertion.
i haven't changed my mind because we're not talking about the same keogh, the new improved keogh won't devide fans as did the old keogh.chalk and cheese.

This is 2 points more than I thought we were likely to get as I thought a point against West Ham and losses at Wigan and City. So 3 points from those games is pretty good I think.

However, the game tomorrow against Hull is the first of the BIG games for Wolves. BIG games are those in which we MUST get a result. PL survival is about overcoming Hull, Burnley, Bolton and the rest. That means Millions in revenue and the opportunity to entertain and typically lose to the likes of Manure and Chelski.

A loss tomorrow would put us seriously back on our heels! A draw would be disappointing. A win is a MUST!

completely 100% totally emphatically and fully agree with you oldngold, tomorrow is a must win

four points taken from the likes of hull, blues, sjoke, burnley, notlob and pompey are what will keep us in this division

let's hope we start with 3 points tomorrow

DISAPPOINTING!

Missed big opportunity for 3 points. We cannot afford this type of result. Recall our schedule after xmas is appallingly difficult.

Why he brought Vokes on with 2 minutes left is beyond me! Defence looks generally solid but is prone to the odd loss of concentration. Did well after going 1 down so early on.

Doyle is a class player as everyone agrees because it is obvious. As I have said if you want quality you have to pay for it, and in Doyle we certainly have acquired it! I still think we're 2 or 3 Doyle equivalent signings short.

Midfield today was a concern. Milijas and Henry prevented Hull counters quite well throughout, but we're lacking quality in our final ball. Jarvis in particular is consistently woeful in this area. He has great pace, but then if you can't deliver the ball there's not much point. I would have liked to see MM bring on Surman, and I can't understand why he didn't change anything with the subs.

Overall a good performance. But disappointing because we did not get a result. We must get results in these games regardless of whether we play well. I would rather we play poorly and win.

Our next games are Blackburn away, Fulham at home and Sunderland away. With Foley, Kightly and SEB still out, I can see us losing all three of those games. Maybe a draw at Blackburn. As a I say I am concerned. I really think we're 2 or 3 quality players short. And we should remember after the 31st we can't take any players even on loan until January.
