Would Wolves continue with their recent run of wins, or would we lose to a Preston team, who under Alan Irvine, looked quite a decent outfit?

Wolves started off quite brightly, creating a few chances, all of which came and went without troubling the scoreboard. There was a scare after about 10 minutes, when Wolves 'keeper Wayne Hennessey came out for a ball and was clattered by an opposition player. Play was however allowed to continue and resulted in Richard Stearman being forced to chest the ball off the line, admits frantic appeals from the home team and fans. A few more chances for both sides however just after half an hour, Chris Iwelumo scored a corker of a goal. David Jones whipped in a cross and "big Chris" connect with a sweetly timeed over-head kick which nestled into the far corner of the net giving Wolves a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the break. As the players left the pitch, Wolves managed Mick McCarthy was asked to spend the 2nd half in the stands, due to him "clapping the referee". Make of that what you will......

The 2nd half followed the same sort of pattern, with Wolves doing most of the attacking, but Preston were not to be underestimated, with a couple of chances falling their way before Wolves struck again. Iwelumo finished off a nice exchange of passes between Keogh and Kightly to tap home to make it 2-0. Barely had 5 more minutes passed, when Wolves were awarded a penalty, following a foul on Kightly in the penalty area. With Ebanks-Blake off the pitch having earlier been replaced by Keogh, Iwelumo took the resulting penalty, and with it scoring his and Wolves 3rd of the game.

The drama was not to end there. Shortly after scoring his 3rd Iwelumo was shown a straight red card for a head butt on Preston player Sean St. Ledger. After the game this "incident" was cleared up by Mick McCarthy, who revealed that St. Ledger had spoken to the referee and conceded that nothing had happened between the 2 players.

Just before the end of the game, Preston came forward which resulted in Wayne Hennessey being sent off for a foul on Neil Mellor. New boy Jason Shackell donned the 'keepers Jersey with all 3 substitutes having already been used but had no chance with the penalty. That was the last action of the game and Wolves had emerged with another 3 points and their unbeaten start still intact.

So.......7 games in, who'd have thought we would be where we are at this stage of the season? 6 wins, 1 draw, 21 goals scored and only 7 conceded. Only time will tell if we can keep this up. Will the loss of Wayne Hennessey count against us? Or is Carl Ikeme ready for his 1st league start of the season? Without a doubt the feel good factor is well and truly back at Molineux and long may it continue! Let’s try and keep our feet on the ground and, to borrow a old cliché; take each game as it comes. I am certainly feeling optimistic about the rest of the season; sure there will be defeats and the odd bad performance here and there but let’s keep the fantastic support going and show the league we are where we are on merit!!!
