Elliott
Stephen Elliott will become Wolves' fourth big summer signing on Wednesday after agreeing terms at Molineux. It is understood Wolves fought off a host of championship clubs, including Preston North End, for the signature of the Sunderland man.
Stephen Elliott will join Matt Jarvis, Darren Ward and Freddy Eastwood as the fourth summer signing tomorrow when he puts pen to paper on a three year deal.
It is thought Elliott was a long term target for Wolves boss Mick McCarthy who signed the Irish striker as a youngster at Sunderland from Manchester City in 2004.
McCarthy instructed Moxey to get his man after Wolves were unable to agree personal terms with Billy Sharp last month. Despite having a bid by Scunthorpe accepted the Wolves chief was not keen to break the self-applied private wage cap by offering Sharp more than the rest of the squad and after Sharp later joined Sheffield United the attention turned to Elliott.
The 23 year old has recently been the victim of several niggling injuries but when fit has a proven goal scoring record. Elliott made a fantastic start to his Sunderland career by scoring 16 goals in his first season. As a reward for his fine form the Dubliner became a regular in the Ireland national squad and has since scored one goal from his six Ireland caps.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy now has great competition in the striking department which possibly hosts a selection of the best strikers in the division. Stephen Elliott will have to fight with Stephen Ward, Jay Bothroyd, Andy Keogh and Freddy Eastwood for a starting place at Molineux.
McCarthy told the clubs official website "I want competition for places all over the park and we've really got it now up front. I've told the players the best 11 will play.
"I wanted the deal done in time to get Stephen out to Ireland with the rest of the squad and he'll be with us this evening."
