A Look At The Championship New Boys

Blackpool
By Scott Cooper
July 14 2007
LESS than a month before the start of the season and on the day of the first friendly game we take a look at three of the new additions to the 2007/08 Championship. We feature the promoted trio of Scunthorpe United, Bristol City and Blackpool.
SCUNTHORPE UNITED

Scunthorpe United

HOW THEY DID IT:

Scunthorpe United secured promotion to the Championship in style by clinching the title. Scunthorpe finished a massive six points clear of Bristol City in second place scoring 73 goals in the process.

THE GROUND:

Glanford Park
9,183
Wolves will receive 1,650 tickets and will be housed at the South (AMS Stand) end of the ground,

WHEN:

It will be a visit to Glanford Park for Mick McCarthy's men on the 19th January and The Iron make the trip to Molineux less than a month later on the 16th February.

BRISTOL CITY

Bristol City

HOW THEY DID IT:

Bristol City clinched the second of the two League One automatic promotion places. City finished 6 points behind Champions Scunthorpe whilst scoring 63 goals. Just two points separated 2nd and 3rd place.

THE GROUND:

Ashton Gate
21,479
Wolves will receive in the region of 2,800 seats and will be housed behind one of the goals in the Wedlock Stand.

WHEN:

City travel to Molineux on the 3rd November and Wolves will make the journey to the south west on the 12th April, just four games before the end of the season.

BLACKPOOL

Blackpool

HOW THEY DID IT:

Blackpool won promotion to the Championship in the best way possible - the Play Off Final. A 2-0 win over Yeovil at the new Wembley was enough to secure Championship status for the Seasiders.

THE GROUND:

Bloomfield Road
9,491
Ground redevelopment means the Wolves fans will probably be housed in a temporary stand on the East side of the ground. Approximately 1,700 seats should be available.

WHEN:

The first game between the two sides comes just next month. Molineux will be the setting on the 25th April and Wolves will travel north on the 12th February.

PREDICTIONS:

Scunthorpe:
We know the impact Andy Keogh has had at Molineux so a full season without the Irish International is bound to have an impact on Scunthorpe. However it was the sale of Billy Sharp to Sheffield United that may hit The Iron the hardest. Expect a struggle.

Bristol City:
Probably the better of the three promoted sides to cope in the second tier of English football. City have the largest ground and their recent signing of Michael McIndoe from Wolves will give City a great chance of survival.

Blackpool:
The least time to prepare for the Championship and the least likely to survive. Finished last season in great form and on a high but unless they spend some cash soon relegation looms.
