Dumbarton 1 Queens Park 1 - WE'RE UP!

Flantastic
By Sonny Rock
April 27 2002
Well we did the hard way. Last minute penalty save from John Wight made sure but with Albion Rovers failing to win against Elgin we're up. Sons took the lead via Paddy Flannery but blunder ref Gilmour decided he wanted centre stage as he gave a further two penalties to Queens.
In what turned out to be a dramatic final few minutes of the season Sons could have so easily missed out on promotion. At the same time as John Wight pulled of his spectacular penalty save to keep Sons level Albion Rovers keeper Chris Fahey (up trying to force a winner) had a shot blocked on the line to deny Rovers the win. Had both these shots went in it would have been the Coatbridge men celebrating and not us. Ach well who cares we're up anyway.

In news that will shock all Sons fans Paddy Flannery revealed that the club hasn't even spoken to him about renewing his contract - so it looks like he won't be at The Rock to take on Falkirk, Raith and the Bankies next season.

Manager Tom Carson could follow Flannery out the door as he allgedly applied for the vacant post at Stenhousemuir which has now been filled by John McVeigh. Tam may be looking elsewhere due to the continuing uncertainty about new owners. Players revealed that they believe ex-Bankie Kenny Brannigan will be the new Sons boss.

CSN would like to pay tribute to Tam Carson, George "Elvis" Clarke and the whole Sons squad for getting out of the hell hole that is Division 3.

WELL DONE LADS
