Bruce Interest In Bassong
By Tyne-Talk
June 6 2009
Speculation has increased in today's tabloid as to whether Sebastien Bassong will be playing at Newcastle United next season, after Sunderland manager Steve Bruce confirmed his interest in the 22 year old Frenchman. Bassong refused to commit his future to the club on prior to being relegated and is yet to speak on the subject; however he has also caught the eye of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Just last week Alan Shearer made it clear that he had no intention of selling Bassong for anything short of £15Million.

The club are due to have pre-arranged talks with Bassong's representatives over the coming weeks.

well we knew it would happen, it just makes it worse because its bruce thats being linked. Well if he wants to pay £15 mill then im sure we will survive. And lets hope that if he does go to SLUMderland then his form last season was just a one off and he turns into collocini next season lol.

I'd like to have him in the team next season but don't think there's much chance of that. We may as well get as much money as we can for him.

What a p*sser though if he goes to Sunderland.

We are not in a position to ask for that kind of money.
The finanical folk want to recoup money and quickly. He'll go for much less than that unfortunately.

He may not go at all...he is on extremely low wages for a footballer. Werent they quoting 5K a week or something like that?

Yeah, Bassong is on 5k a week, so wont be sold on the cheap.

Anything short of 15m should be rejected. Promotion is more vital the balancing the mythical books.

In the Chronicle tongiht apartently accordsing to one of bassongs mates (hopefully not nzogbia) says he wants away. Wasnt happy with the responses of most of the players aftyer the villa match says only 3 or 4 looked like they cared, the rest were talking about their holidays sad smiley He says he is also annoyed about the uncertainty regarding ownership and shearers non apppointment as yet.

Bassongs gone, no player who has had a good year in the premiership is going to stay and play in the championship especially with him being linked to Spurs and Arsenal.

I remember another young French lad who was linked with Arsenal and Tottenham. He didnt end up there. Neither will Bassong.

And they're wanting to keep Senderos once he returns from loan at AC Milan.

he was the best of a bad lot, and frequently less than even that. the whole thing about 15m, and the whole thing about bruce, sounds like a newspaper filler. he's half decent, no more, and 15m buys a lot more than him, if you're after a defender
