Gunning move off….

Gunning
By Graham Barnstaple
July 28 2011
Last season’s loan defender Gavin Gunning was wanted by Stuart McCall but he could be heading elsewhere.

Gunnning moved to Fir Park on loan from Blackburn Rovers at the end of the last transfer window in January. His enthusiastic and committed performances won the heart of the fans, although he wasn’t necessarily the most consistent of players.

It looks as though he will now move elsewhere despite a real interest from Stuart McCall to bring him back north for another season. He turned out as a trialist for Scunthorpe United in a friendly against Rotherham, in a 2-0 win.

Gunning impressed in the game and will be fielded again as a trialist at the weekend against Barnsley, which would appear to put us out of the running completely.

He will be long remembered for his thundering drive which crashed off the bar in the Cup Final which could have turned the game on its head.

This means McCall needs to come up with a plan B to provide cover at the back. Hopefully we don’t have to wait until we can pick up loan players from Premiership when their season starts.

In the mean time we need to keep our fingers crossed there are no short term injury problems, although the emergence of Jordan Halsman could ease those issues.
