Success For Boro in the Cup

Downing Great Goal.

The Boro put in the first convincing performance for a fair bit of time tonight in a convincing 2-0 Home win in the FA Cup 5th round replay against West Ham tonight. Stewart Downing's 5th minute free kick was a superbly timed strike, and was followed in the 20th minute by a well-hit low drive from Tuncay Sanli. Boro will now face Everton at Goodison Park in the quarter finals.

While the cup provides a good distraction from the teams torrid league form, the team will be hoping that they can take tonights assured performance into the league form, starting with our game at Anfield this weekend. Tonight it was just great to see the Boro grab a clean sheet and grab a couple of excellent goals. The re-emergence of the Tuncay and Aliadiere partnership, while not usually the highest scoring solution could perhaps be a decent strategy for Middlesbrough if we want to climb out of the relegation zone.

A pessimist would argue that West Ham were in poor form tonight, but I think that it's vital that we concentrate on the fact that we have produced a rare win. This performance shows that we can pull out all of the correct moves against decent Premier League opposition, and as we all know on our day the Boro can beat anyone when they are on the right form. However tonight it is just fantastic to see the Boro back on track and a brief chance to celebrate is available before we continue to focus on the crucial league matches that we face to stay in the league.

Great to see us score more than one goal.... two against Liverpool will do nicely .... here's hoping!
