Red Devils and Rams lock horns in Cup again

Previous meeting - and in

Manchester United and Derby County will renew their FA Cup rivalry in early January, as the two sides meet in the third round at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho's men were paired alongside the Rams in a third-round draw which lacked non-league representation, but paired some hotly-anticipated ties.

Liverpool and Everton face a fierce Merseyside derby at Anfield, while Brighton & Hove Albion entertain bitter rivals Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere, Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest, while AFC Wimbledon face a huge trip to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur; a day which is saw to be emotional for supporters of the League One club.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland also do battle in a North East derby, while Leeds United go to Newport County, and Bristol City - United's League Cup quarter-final opponents - will have another chance to prove their Premier League credentials at Watford.

The third round could have no non-league representatives whatsoever - with three clubs from 'outside' the 92 facing second-round replays.

Phoenix club Hereford FC have the chance to continue the town's proud FA Cup tradition, with a potential match-up with Leicester City if they can overcome Fleetwood in a replay. Meanwhile, the winner of Woking and Peterborough United's replay go to Aston Villa, while AFC Bournemouth host the winners of AFC Fylde and Wigan Athletic.

United will face Derby for the eleventh time in the competition, which includes their last two meetings - both wins for United, 3-1 at Pride Park in 2016, and 4-1 at the same ground in 2009.

Derby's spell outside the English top flight will hit a decade at the end of the current season, but Gary Rowett's Rams are sitting fairly handsomely in sixth spot in the Championship table, as the club seeks a return to the country's elite division.

United's last FA Cup triumph came in 2016, as Louis van Gaal ended a 12-year wait in the famous competition in - controversially - his final game as manager of the club. The Red Devils will be favourites for this third round tie, but eyes will be focussed on whether Mourinho shows the competition, and fixture, the respect it deserves.

Ties are scheduled to take place on the 6 or 7 of January. The full draw - including those big ties - is as follows:
