A Manchester United former players XI claimed a 4-2 win on Tuesday evening, taking on a team of ex-Swansea City players in a testimonial match for Alan Tate.

Tate spent the bulk of his 16-year playing career at Swansea, where he notched up 293 league appearances, and scored five goals.

However, he began his career as a Manchester United player – and the two clubs fielded teams of former players to mark the occasion. The game was shown live on MUTV.

Tate was supposed to have a testimonial ahead of the 2013/14 season, when he was still on Swansea's books. However, a fixture with United was postponed after the two clubs were paired against one another on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Dwight Yorke fired home the game's opening goal on 12 minutes, before Lee Trundle - who scored for fun with Llanelli Town last season - set-up Andy Robinson to restore parity.

The Red Devils re-took the lead, courtesy of Danny Webber, before Sam Ricketts made it two apiece.

Swansea were managed by Brendan Rodgers and Brian Flynn - and they saw their side slip behind after the interval, despite a series of impressive saves from Swans legend Roger Freestone.

Webber and Yorke bagged a goal each – securing a brace apiece, with Easington-born Tate reportedly due to meet with Swansea Council and East Durham Council to see how money raised can support the local communities.
