Speculation suggests Berbatov and Vidic could leave United

Set to go?
By Chris,
January 10 2010
Manchester United may part company with two of their biggest names at the end of the season, according to the Sunday Mirror. The tabloid alleges that Dimitar Berbatov and Nemanja Vidic will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season with £80million of talent reportedly moving on for pastures new.

The latest trend from sections of the media seems to be to report United's impending demise. Subsequently, reports have emerged speculating a huge change in playing personnel at Old Trafford.

The Sunday Mirror claims that United will make mammoth changes to his squad at the end of the season - with Berbatov and Vidic the highest-profile names to leave the club.

Vidic has been linked with a move to Spain in recent months, while £30million frontman Berbatov has not had the impact many hoped for despite bagging 20 goals for the club since his switch from Spurs.

Anderson, Nani and Zoran Tosic are other names who could be on their way, according to the Mirror's report.

Should this state of affairs materialise, United boss Fergie would have the freedom to bring in a host of new talent and effectively rebuild significant sections of his squad.

With Gary Neville expected to retire at the end of the season, and doubts hanging over the long-term future of Paul Scholes, the squad could have a very fresh look about it next season.

Yeah this "Summer clearout" thing is a very realistic prospect.
Sir Alex who has only ever gradually changed his squad over a number of years would suddenly think "Fluff this, I want 8 players out and 8 new ones in"(!)

Berbatov will stay. 30mill and two seasons?! He will defo stay regardless of what is said. Ferguson has faith in him coming good.

Vidic has CONSTANTLY said he is happy even though he would enjoy one day playing in spain. Does this mean we need to sell him? IMO not at all. He is a fantastic player and one we should hold on to unless there is a ridiculous bid for him.

The more worrying thing about this whole debacle is this:

Financially, we NEED to sell players. Our debt is getting bigger than the amount of snow outside my house. I'm afraid that selling players, even though i really think we need to, would only serve to help pay off debts and that SAF wouldnt see as much of the money as we would think.

A clearout is needed, badly. It's time for us to realise and just accept that there are players amongst the squad who, quite simply, are not good enough.

I'll get lambasted for this, but here is my clearout list:

Nani, Park, Anderson, Berbatov, Neville, Scholes, Brown, Rafael maybe, his brother also maybe. Maybe a few younger lads also.

Its time for us to regain the "invincible feel" to the team, the true power we once had. Tearing teams apart.

I hate to say it, but losing Ronaldo, even though he's a tw@, is proving to be a massive loss.

We look so so average in most games, we just don't have the world class players anymore. We have a collection of "possibly great" and "hard working" players. This isn't good enough.

No way the Da Silva's should go. They have been excellent and the defensive side will come with maturity.

As i said, maybe for them two, i'm just unimpressed wih their defensive qualities, for defenders they arent very good defensively.....

a clear out would be good for the team

Van der Sar will leave soon cuz he's nearly 40 and we need to bring in someone new cuz Kuscszak isnt good enough and nor is foster, both are no. 2's at best

Neville is also another who is on his last legs

I dont so much agree about wes brown, i think hes had one bad game this season n his injuries havent helped but on form he's one of the most natural defenders in the league

Nani is a definate, he's just not a man utd player, has ability, but not the mentality

Im still keepin the faith wih Berba, 20 goals in 2 seasons isnt a bad return. I understand he should be scorin more and I believe he will eventually, Rooney has took a while to get prolific for us, he's had his most productive season for us this year an hes got 13 whch for a player of his ability he should be scorin more per season

Anderson is a hit n miss, i like him, an he's only young, still has a lot to offer

Brian

Good post and in line with my thinking.

This summer will be a real test of SAF's managerial ability.

A lot of players look like their time is coming to an end, injuries have ravaged Wesley/Rio and Hargreaves and quite frankly the kids coming through are not a patch on the halycon days of the early/mid 90's.

Ronaldo may be SAF's biggest mistake. He won games that masked the flaws.

Without serious funds it will be hard for Fergie to overhaul a side that needs freshening up.

Ronaldo wanted to go and there was nothing Fergie could do about it.
There will be a clear out, players who haven't performed or too injury prone or past their sell by date will be sold.
We are entering tough times and one key factor will be to reduce the wage bill as well. Looks like we will be doing an Arsenal, buying a lot of young talent and developing them, rather than buying already established stars. Its life, but we will get by.

They're 19. They have years to develop.

Do we have years to wait for them though?

Do we have years to put up with mistakes leading to goals as we wait for them to come good?

I'm begining to doubt it.....

For what we've invested and the promise they show then yes, I believe we do.

I don' think that just because we may have to wait 1 or 2 years for the best or bettering of a player to come justifies selling them.

As many have said, I think they could be the future full-backs of the club within the next two seasons.

Dont get me wrong, i hope they are and i hope they continue to improve asap!

But im just slightly p!ssed off over the "nani and anderson will make up 50% of the midfield for years to come" predictions.....

The da Silva's havent really put a foot wrong for us

OK they may not be the solidest at the back but we have players to compensate for their attacking prowess

Mmmm Utd fans settling for giving kids years to show whether they are good enough or not?

Not sure if you should. As the biggest club in the world, bar Real, surely only the best will do?

Potential is one thing, but does it ever get realised?

Ye because its not like us to give kids a chance to prove themselves (Sm16)

I wonder where we would be just now if we didn't give them a chance before.

Fu,ck me where do you come up with this sh.it.

in all reality though, how much will it cost to bring in the 8-9 players that you'd want, and how much would you get from selling those on brian's list?

the numbers won't add up!

might get 100M total for the sales (including Rooney and Vidic, who will be the majority of that 100M). The others aren't good enough.

8-9 "united" players to "rip the rest apart"? You saw madrid do it last summer! 200M, and they only got 4 players!!!

Leeds, Always.

Real Madrid dont buy players from their own money

the king of spain owns them, he can say whether or not they have debt and how much they can afford to waste
