Shankly - He Made The People Happy
By John Christie
December 5 2009
Outside the kop stands his statue. It’s not the biggest most dramatic of statues, in fact in the throng of humanity on match days it’s lost in the crowd. That’s the way the great man would of wanted it.
From the day he arrived, 50 years ago, he struck a cord with one and all. He was one of us, fanatical about the game he loved, passionate about his players and passionate about us fans.

Shankly was the greatest orator I have ever heard. If he'd went into politics he could have led the world, but the man had far too much integrity. He was more akin to a spiritual leader .I Swear not even the apostles could have listened more intently to Jesus Christ than Listened when that man spoke. It's not about the trophies he won, it's about Shankly the man.

Every time I travel past his statue my eyes will rest upon it. Fleetingly a memory will come back; a smile will be on my face. I have never heard a bad thing said of the man to this day.

I loved this man and everything he stood for. His fanatical will to win, his belief in doing everything the right and proper way. Win and lose gracefully.

This is the Shankly way and its our way.
