Hutchinson joined the Imps on loan from Celtic last season after scoring twice against City in pre-season. Despite being hyped up by Chris Sutton as someone who could fire Lincoln City to glory, Hutchinson failed to live up to expectations with several disappointing performances and a goal return of just 4 goals in 36 games, combined with a lack of effort, made him incredibly unpopular with Imps fans, especially after he alledgely started abusing City fans.
The Imps failed in an attempt to send him back to Celtic after the Scottish club refused to end his loan spell early. He was released by Celtic at the end of last season.
After failing to make an impact since joining Kilmarnock in the summer, Hutchinson played a friendly for Mansfield Town against Eastwood earlier in the week. He uncharacteristically scored twice and was given praise by Stags box Paul Cox in the Mansfield Chad.
"Ben is here for a couple of weeks so we can run the rule over them," stated Cox. "It is early days yet. Two training sessions and a game, you can sometimes read too much into it. But I go back a long way with Ben to his Academy days when he came through with Lindon Meikle. Since then he has played in the Premiership and the Champions League. Now he has come here to and maybe we can help him if need be to kickstart his career again. He has the ability to get back to where he wants to be with his career. But the do that he has to graft, and he has to sit, listen and learn.”
