Swaibu swerver isn't enough for City
By Slevin Morgan
February 6 2010
Moses Swaibu's first goal for the Imps after almost a yeart at the club wasn't enough for the Imps to get anything at Chesterfield. A brilliant opener from Green was followed by Barry Conlon's usual goal against the Imps, but the introduction of the impressive Lennon changed the game in City's favour.

Swaibu made his debut for the club away at Morecambe last season and had never really looked like scoring, but with the Imps currently being in a rut where anyone other than the strikers seem able to score, Swaibu could arguably have been one of the favourites to find the back of the net.

The former Crystal Palace starlet was only in the starting line up due to injuries to Nathan Baker and Adam Watts, with the latter failing a late fitness test. This also meant a rare start for Danny Hone, a young defender who has barely been given a chance by Sutton. Anderson and Green were also part of the defence.

With the new look defence having rarely played together, they were quickly under pressure with Rundle getting a corner for the hosts early on, the former Rochdale schemer shotting wide from the follow up. Hone soon looked to be struggling after comign out second best in an aerial challenge with Barry Conlon.

Kerr and Herd worked well together to create a first chance for the Imps but it was easily claimed by Tommy Lee and Herd soon saw a late long range effort go wide and out for a corner, a corner that was then wasted.

Just as it looked as though City were on the verge of a double over the Spirites, Dominic Green picked up the ball after the referee played advantage for a foul on Niven, he ran with it and let rip from near 30 yards on the right to score a stunning goal for the hosts. Niven volleyed over soon thereafter.

With no more chances created in the first half, the next moments of incident came in the second half as Conlon, whom has a habit of hitting the net against City on a regular basis, pounced from close range following a corner.

Chesterfield looked like running away with it as Conlon blazed over with the chance to make it 3-0. It wasn't long before the first substitution came with Herd going off for John-Lewis, the Austrailian far from happy. Hughton was quickly subbed off for the debuting Lennon.

It didn't take long for City to come into the game as a free kick was dropped by Lee into the path of Swaibu, the defender calmly lifting it over everyone and into the net.

Lennon almost quickly made it two as tangled legs in the area saw it fall to him before  last gasp tackle from Page. Connor replaced Facey as Sutton tried desperately to gain what would have been a relatively undeserved point.

It took until the final minute of added on time for the Imps to create another worthwhile chance as the ball was whipped into the box and it only just missed Lennon at the back post.

i know its a well worn clichey but again a game of two halfs.
First half we were terrible . if their finishing was as enterprising their build up play they would have been out of sight by half time.

2nd half was better , with Herd by far the better player we had . He looked to be limping slightly when he was taken of so i hope it aint serious. if it was a tactical move then not the best sutton descion of the day by Sutton.HoweverIt did take a comedy of errors for our goal with Lee fumbling the ball and then not playing to the whistle . Good finish though

Lennon looked good when he came on , but for all the huff and puff neither goal was in serious threat after our goal.

but another defeat , and another in-different performance. things must improve
