Forest 0 Leeds 4 - Emotional victory
By Andy Baggott
November 30 2011
On a night of high emotion, Leeds produced their best performance of the season to blow away a poor Nottingham Forest last night at the City Ground.

Leeds fans, as always travelled in their thousands, with only one name on everyone's lips - the late Gary Speed.

This was Leeds' first match since the tragic death of the former number 11.  With the fans still in a state of bewilderment and shock, it was a chance for them to pay their respects.  Despite Speed leaving many years ago, there is a real sense of loss felt by the fans - with Billy's statue surrounded by shirts, scarves and flowers, and message boards full of heartfelt tributes.

A minutes applause was followed by a superb Leeds performance.  Manager Simon Grayson made a tactical change - going back to 4-5-1, with Michael Brown recalled.  On 11 minutes, the Leeds fans started up a chorus of 'Oh, Gary Gary, Gary Gary Gary Gary Gary Speed' - and produced a chant that filled the stadium - with many Forest fans joining in.  The chant kept going for 11 minutes, and just as it came to a close - up stepped Robert Snodgrass to fire in a 20 yard shot that gave Leeds the lead they richly deserved.  Before half time, following a string of near misses, it was 2-0 - skipper Jonny Howson, in a much more advanced role, hitting a dipping 20 yard volley into the roof of the net.

The second half was more of the same - Browns excellent cross early on was met by Becchio's head, and at 3-0 the game was over.  Still Leeds pushed on, and Clayton got the 4th after Howsons run and shot was saved.  There was time for Andy Reid to see red for a second booking, after hauling down the marauding Aidy White.  The final whistle blew, and the players applauded the magnificent fans - along with Simon Grayson, who stayed clapping the fans for a long time, in a victory he dedicted to that man speed.

Next up is at Elland Road on Saturday when Millwall visit, in another game that is sure to see many more tears shed as 30,000+ are expected to remember their former star.

Important win for Leeds, great performance and sensational fans.

RIP Gary Speed - gone but never forgotten.

Cant wait for Saturday now, last night sounded amazing.

One note though, you cant send a dipping volley into the roof of the net unless it doesnt go in tongue sticking out smiley!

Music expresses feeling and thought, without language; it was below and before speech, and it is Above&Beyond all words.
