Beckfords Transfer request...
By Rich Baggott
January 6 2010
Leeds United have confirmed that leading striker, Jermaine Beckford handed in a transfer request on 30th December 2009. The club have stated Jermaine will only be sold for the right money and if a suitable replacement can be found so as not to hamper the clubs hopes of promotion this season.

This is the first indication that Beckford wants to leave the club.  In the summer of 2009, the club transfer listed the striker when contract negotiations broke down and with just one year left on his existing deal, the player would be free to leave the club at the end of the current season.

Leeds removed Beckford from the transfer list as the request of manager, Simon Grayson and speculation has been rife ever since about the players future.  Many had hoped a promotion to the Championship would see him sign a new contract with Leeds but that possibility seems very remote now.

It has been widely reported that Newcastle United have had two bids of £1m and £1.25m turned down in recent days and a third bid, believed to by £1.5m is said to be on the table.

What is unclear is why it has only just been reported given that the transfer request was submitted a week ago, and before the victory over Manchester United in which Beckford scored the only goal. How much indication does this provides that Leeds may want to keep hold of a player who's goals are invaluable.

With a home tie to Wycombe in three days, it remains to be seen if Beckford has played his last ever game for Leeds United.
