Like the bad penny former Darlington chairman George Reynolds simply keeps turning back up. Speaking in a Carlisle newspaper the former chairman claimed he was glad that the Cumbria outfit have been relegated from the football league. He contacted the paper, the News & Star, after the club had been relegated to boast, "I told you so."
He went on to claim that Cheltenham had equalised due to him willing the ball into the back of the net with the aid of mystical powers.
"I said relegation would happen two years ago and it has worked out spot on." He said. "Do you know why Cheltenham equalised [the goal that sent United down]? I was willing the ball into the net for them. I sat down and willed it in. I was here with my Ouija board and voodoo dolls sticking needles in."
Reynolds went on to blame Carlisle's supporters' trust and the directors for hounding out Knighton. He went on to blame supporters' trusts for the down falls of York and Notts County. Clearly he does not count Lincoln City, who finished in the play-offs for the second season running, who have had a lot of help from their trust.
"You have ruined the club between you. You can't blame Michael Knighton for this one. Supporters' trusts were involved with Carlisle, York City and Notts County - and they've all been relegated. I was talking to Michael a few weeks ago and he said, 'they've made a sight worse job of it than I did'." Reynolds added: "Michael is doing stuff in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, places like that, and he's making a lot of money. He's back to his old self."
Once again Reynolds extends the olive branch of friendship to clubs in the surrounding area and in doing so further alienates himself from the footballing world.
