Town took the lead thanks to an own goal from Doncaster's Sam Hird in the 25th minute. Colin Healy made it 2-0 just 8 minutes later when Hird was unable to deal with a cross from Lee Martin which found Colin Healy, who was able to slide the ball home from 12-yards.
Wickham scored his first of the night when Doncaster 'keeper Gary Woods could only parry Healy's effort into the 17-year-olds path.
Wickham got his second on the hour mark when Doncaster were unable to clear a corner fully allowing Wickham to volley home.
Gareth McAuley made it 5-0 in the 65th minute with a header from a Jimmy Bullard free-kick. Wickham completed his hat-trick when he converted a penalty which Town were awarded when Sam Hird brought the striker down.
The result was Town's biggest away win since beating Swindon Town 6-0 in 1999.
