Martin Expected Exit

Town midfielder Lee Martin has revealed he expected to be leaving Portman Road after being told he could leave by Roy Keane.

Martin: "I was basically transfer listed in the summer and while the previous manager was in charge there was a real possibility I'd be on my way.

"It wasn't nice to be told you can leave just a year after arriving. He made up his mind I wasn't in his plans and nothing was going to change that.

"I played month after month in the reserves last season and that knocks you. I needed to get away when I did. I think if I stayed another six months, it would have only knocked me further back.

"I went to Charlton thinking whatever happens, happens. I learnt a lot about football in my time there and got a real run of games and that's done me the world of good.

"Now I've got another opportunity here. It's great to be back and playing games for Ipswich and it's up to me to show the new manager what I can do."
