Solano - retiring?
At 37 the Peruvian was close to that decision when he joined Pools during the summer, but he can’t even get into Cooper’s match squad and it looks like he will be on his way.
There was little or no chance of him being included in the squad for Saturday’s League One visit to Richie Barker’s Bury, where the home side will be on a high after a good 1-1 draw at runaway leaders Charlton in midweek.
The Shakers are a point ahead of Pools in mid-table, and there’s no doubt former Pools striker Barker – a big favourite with fans at the Vic – has made a more than promising start to his career at a manager at Gigg Lane.
But while Solano doesn’t feature in Cooper’s plans, the new Pools boss wants to keep all his players happy.
He told the Northern Echo: “We train hard and well. No-one likes a laugh and joke more than me, but we train with a high tempo and carry that into the games.
"When we finish training we go and have a laugh and there's such a happy atmosphere around the camp.
“I see a difference in them since I arrived. I have told each of them how important they are.”
Cooper has had an impact on and off the pitch, and the fresh attitude amongst the players was clear to see in last weekend’s impressive 4-0 demolition of Carlisle United, whose play-off ambitions took a severe denting in that one-sided game.
Left-back Evan Horwood should be fit for Bury – the ankle injury he took against Carlisle is expected to clear up – if they play as well as they have in most games since Cooper breezed back into the Vic, they have nothing to fear.
As long as complacency doesn’t set in, and Cooper will be wary of that.
