League One was a tough one last season, and the arrival of big clubs like Norwich, Southampton and Charlton will make it even more difficult.
Pools begin their campaign on August 8 with an away game against MK Dons, who just missed out on promotion last season, and life doesn’t get any easier in the early stages of the season.
They play both Charlton and Norwich, both at the Vic, in August, a month that also includes a Carling Cup first round visit to Championship side Coventry.
The first game against Southampton comes up on November 24, while Pools visit Leeds in the nearest game they have to a derby on Boxing Day. The return game is on at the Vic on Saturday February 6.
The start of the season looks tough, but life could be easier in the last few games against the likes of orient, Brighton, Wycombe, Stockport, Colchester, Walsall, Exeter and Brentford. Like Pools, none of them are tipped by the bookies to be taking part in the race for honours in the new season.
Meanwhile, with far less Northern clubs in ,league One than teams from the South, the miles are going to be clocked up by both the team and the fans as they travel to away games in the new season.
The full fixtures are on the Pools website.
