Royce Gets Coaching Role

Gills' veteran goalkeeper Simon Royce has been offered a contract extension by new manager Andy Hessenthaler, in a role which will make him player-coach at the club.

 Royce, 38, has beenat Priestfield for three years after signing a permanent deal from Queens ParkRangers after a successful loan spell.

Speaking to BBC Radio Kent, manager Andy Hessenthaler said: ""Wehave a ready-made one (coach) in Simon and he can still stand in for AlanJulian if there was a problem."

"I would like to have a goalkeeping coach but the financesdictate, but Simon has got a lot of experience, so that would be something thatwould interest me."

Royce, a fans favourite, was a regular in the Gills side sincejoining the club up to when he was involved in a minor car crash in Decemberand lost his place to Alan Julian.
