Victor Anichebe insists he has not given up hope of being selected by Nigeria for the World Cup in South Africa.
The striker, who was on target in the 2-2 draw at St. Andrew's on Saturday, accepts though that his long term injury lay-off makes his chances slim.
Anichebe spent 11-months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury in a game at Newcastle in February 2009.
The Blues forward made his come back in January and hopes new Super Eagles manager Lars Lagerbäck hasn't ruled him out of his plans for South Africa.
"It would be nice, but obviously I have been out injured for so long," Anichebe said.
"I am just looking at playing for Everton as I have been out for so long. It would be hopeful to think about the World Cup but we will just have to see what happens."
During his recovery from knee surgery, he missed out on Nigeria's dramatic qualification for this summer's finals.
The striker also had to watch fellow Blues Yakubu and Joseph Yobo represent Nigeria at the 2010 African Cup of Nations from his home on Merseyside.
The 21-year-old says it felt like a very a long wait his for his return to action.
"The season seems to have flown by for some of the players but for me it is just nice to be playing as I have only returned for the end of it. I am just happy to be involved."
