Absence of Ferdinand will be a mistake claims Ronaldo

Christiano Ronaldo believes that England gaffer Roy Hodgson has made a major mistake in excluding Rio Ferdinand from his Euro 2012 squad.  Ronaldo described his former team mate as the 'best centre-back in England, and one of the best in the world'.

Ronaldo cannot understand why Hodgson has left his former Old Trafford team mate out of his Euro squad selection, and believes this is a decision that could come back to haunt him in the end.

However, he believes England still have a good chance of Euro success this year, and will be classed as one of the favourites as always before the competition starts in 16 days time.

He said: "I always expect England to win a big tournament, England have some of the best players in the world and are always tough opponents for any team".

"I hope England do well in the Euros because I have a lot of friends there. It is a country I like a lot. I expect big things for England, the new coach and the country."
