Coventry Spot On

A professional display, and four quality taken penalties, saw Coventry City progress into the next round of the Johnstones Paint Trophy.

A larger than expected crowd of 10,000+, and a lack of open gates, meant it was a good few minutes before a fair few supporters were seated and watching the match.

Sheffield United managed only a couple of shots on goal in the first half, probably the best of which came from CCFC old-boy Michael Doyle. Coventry City’s players, on the other hand, managed a fair few shots, most of which were ballooned over the bar.

Man-mountain/brick out-house McGuire opened the scoring for the home side on 56 minutes, opting to put Jennings cross into his own net, rather than allowing McGoldrick to add to his tally for the season.

Coventry managed a fair few decent efforts on goal without scoring before a(nother) Murphy parry saw MacAllister equalise for the away side.

A few late Coventry City corners came to nothing, and, with no extra-time played in the JPT, it was down to penalties. McSheffrey, McGoldrick, Baker and Fleck scored for Coventry, while McGuire saw his effort saved by Murphy, and Flynn missed by a fair distance for the away side.

TEAM: Murphy, Christie, Adams, Wood, Edjenguele, Jennings, Moussa (Fleck 76), Baker, Bailey, McSheffrey, McGoldrick. SNU: Dunn, Clarke, Barton, O'Donovan.
