Forest have three winnable games left to play, with the first of those against a side who already look as if they're on their holidays. Barnsley have to play said side too. Norwich look to have the trickiest run-in, but would love the chance to finally gain revenge for the season we won our last three matches to send them down by doing the same to us!
It should be up to Coventry City to do the job themselves, but there will need to be vast improvements from the last couple of fixtures if we don't want to risk once again ending the season with a run of poor results, and a final day of the season to match the last one.
The last two home games at the Ricoh have been absolute bore-draws, while the display versus Plymouth was totally unacceptable (Can anybody tell me how PA's keeper, Larrieu, made the Team Of The Week in 'The Sun'?!). Injuries have been used as an excuse by some, but the sides that took to the pitch for those games weren't exactly inexperienced.
And while Charlton might be playing their football in League One next season, they do have one thing amongst their armoury that we are lacking, pace on the break. Debutant Ashley Cain looks exactly what we need, but I presume having looked as good over 25 minutes as most players did over the ninety, we won't see him again for a while.
Such poor displays will do little to persuade potential season ticket buyers to part with their cash, and might even persaude one or two that normally buy one to pick and choose their matches rather than suffer them all. If the players look as if they are merely 'going through the motions' as the season draws to a close, why should supporters bother paying out to watch them for the entire season?
If the club are to hold onto current season ticket holders, and hopefully add a few more, those promises to keep the best players have to be kept, and those that have failed to shine, and quite clearly won't in this division, need ditching. Included on that list for a fair few people would be Mr. Beuzelin and Mr. Eastwood.
The fact we are looking to offer Beuzelin another year is a concern to some, because he does not look able to keep pace with Championship football. Some of his passing is top notch, but he is far more 'miss' than 'hit'. The same could be said for Freddie Eastwood. He was on my 'wish list' last summer, and I was over the moon (Brian!) when we signed him, but it's just not happened for him this season.
On the subject of ticket sales, Coventry City were recently reported as being pleased that 500 had so far been sold. Some fourty miles up the road, Derby are upto 10,000+, while, according to 'Diss Express' (I never miss an issue!), Norwich have already sold over 17,000. Yes, the same Norwich that are only being kept out of the bottom three on goal difference, and could be playing in League One next season.
Poor displays aside, I fail to see why these two clubs are more of an attractive proposition than Coventry City....
