Match Preview

The Spireites make the short journey to Burton as they attempt to defeat The Brewers in their final game of pre-season. A full strength side is expected to travel as boss Roy McFarland tries to determine his best starting eleven. Nigel Clough, son of the legendary Brian, has an ex-Spireite in his squad in the form of Michael Simpkins. The player departed Saltergate after an ill-fated spell to join Cardfiff.

Trialist Aaron Downes will feature for the Spireites as McFarland decides whether to offer the promising centre back a permanent deal at the club. Alan O'Hare and Alex Bailey will yet again sit this one out with minor injuries, with Mark Hudson remaining a doubt. The trio are being rested to give them extra time ahead of the Brentford league game.

This will be the team's final work out before the big opening game against Brentford on August 7th. McFarland will use this game to fill in the last few blank spots on his teamsheet for that first game.

With Burton spending a lot of money on their way to the conference, it wouldn't be the biggest shock to see them in League Two in the near future. They have signed many players from league clubs, and this will be far from an easy game for the Spireites. However, with our improved fitness, pacy front line and the fact we have learnt from the mistakes of the Derby game, I would expect nothing short of a win for the Blues.

My prediction: Burton Albion 0-3 Chesterfield
