An Outstanding Result

Awkward old Burnley were the first team to defeat Chelsea in the league last year, but happily there was to be no repeat this time. Instead, the team in yellow produced not just a seriously good result, but an equally good performance. It's no exaggeration to state that the visitors could have scored eight, but a return of four goals was beyond most optimistic expectations. Morata, who occasionally impersonates a lethal striker, finished cooly to open the scoring, courtesy of an astute pass from the in-form Barkley. Then it was young Barkley himself who expertly drilled home from twenty yards with his left foot. Willian also chipped in with a beautiful strike of his own. Finally Loftus-Cheek rounded off a brilliant few days for him by scoring from close range in the dying minutes.

This triumph appeared to demolish the myth that Chelsea cannot flourish without the excellent Hazard. It was good to see our two English cubs continue their rich vein of scoring. It was also a continued vindication of our defensive formation, as we kept another clean sheet, in spite of some horrendous flapping at crosses from our expensive young goalkeeper. It's good to climb to second position, hard on the heels of Liverfools. The team remains unbeaten, which is good for morale. They have a few matches at home in the near future, starting with Derby County in a midweek cup fixture. If the goals continue to flow and the defending is sufficiently solid, then this surprisingly good start to the season will just get better and better.
