Baggies Demolished

The champions easily dismantled struggling West Bromwich Albion, thereby securing their third consecutive Premier League clean sheet and their fourth straight win in the top flight. Surely it's not possible to emulate the heroics of last year's winning sequence, but we can dare to dream. What is more, Saturday represented a hat trick of wins twice in the same calendar year against potential banana skin opposition from the Midlands, namely victories at Leicester City and two four-nil destructions of Stoke and West Bromwich Albion, following on from away day triumphs against this triumvirate earlier in the year, in the second half of last season.

Eden Hazard was instrumental in this success. His stinging shot was only parried, enabling the lurking Morata to expertly stretch his left foot around the ball and guide it into the net. Not long afterwards, it was the Belgian himself who steered the ball home after impressive approach play. Then, shortly before the interval, a Fabregas free kick eluded everyone apart from big Alonso at the far stick, whereupon the latter gratefully tucked the ball into the roof of the net from point blank range. Finally the rout was rounded off by a supremely cool finish from the flying Hazard.

It still remains highly unlikely that the visitors will successfully defend their Premier League crown. However, they are still making a good fist of it, and may well proceed to the runners-up position - if they play their cards right, and this would be no mean feat, considering their autumnal struggles.
