Champions Comfortably Dispose Of The Toffees

By Gary Watton
August 27 2017

The big-spending wannabes of Evercrap were a distant second, as the English champions strolled to their second successive Sunday afternoon success. In mitigation, the Toffees were hampered by a ludicrous schedule that involved Manchester Mercenaries on Monday, then a match in Croatia on Thursday, followed by a trip to Chelsea on Sunday. Not even the great Wayne Looney could cope with that demanding workload.

As a consequence, the Blues cruised to a two-goal advantage at the interval. Firstly Morata teed up his compatriot Fabregas who produced an exquisite finish into the far corner. Then Morata himself got in on the goalscoring, comfortably nodding home a brilliant cross from his fellow-countryman Azpilicueta. Not to be left out of the Spanish fireworks, Pedro was back to his buzzing self, producing a few attempts on goal, which on this occasion were very wasteful.

However, this was evidence that the champions had turned the corner after their Burnley debacle. Courtois was rarely threatened, and it is a relief that the hosts have finally acquired a clean sheet after a torrid July and August on the defensive front. Suddenly, in spite of their apparent woes, the Blues are well ahead of Arsenic and Tottensham already. They can go into the tedious international break with renewed confidence. Maybe this just might prove to be yet another silverware-laden season after all.
