Swansea 1-1 Chelsea: AvB Still Has a Lot to Learn

On The Cards

AvBs lack of foresight cost Ashley Cole starting for the Blues when the Champions come visiting to The Bridge on Sunday. In the last few minutes of the first-half at The Liberty Stadium, Swansea's posh new home, Cole was booked and warned and it was only a matter of time before the 'best left-back in world' would get his marching orders.

Although he did finally receive the red card it was later rather than sooner.

Cole had a running battle with Nathan Dyer all night and it was his hasty and mis-timed lunge five minutes from time that cost Cole dearly.

I despair and feely deeply sorry for Fernando Torres. Celebrating his first year of total unhappiness in the Blue shirt his performance last night was poor from a man of his statue and reputation, but this is not his fault.

Blame AvB and blame his team-mates. Torres is basically playing as an extra midfielder and when he eventually gets in the box, none of his team-mates can pass the ball, or cross the ball or find a creative way to get the ball on to his lethal right foot.

Why is AvB perservering with a 4-3-3 system that simply and frankly not working? Torres in midfield (as such) and Danny out on the right - for me it simply doesn't make sense!!

It's a shame the transfer window closed at 11pm last night, because I would let Torres go off to feed in new pastures and put the poor bloke out of his misery and his miserable time at Chelsea is certainly harming his Euro 2012 prospects with Spain.

As for the game itself. Swansea started off like rats racing out of a drainpipe and could have been easily 3-0 up at the break.

Chelsea were not at the rat races. Danny Graham shot wide and there was a spectacular double clearance off the line when first Ivanovic cleared from Sigurdsson and then Luiz clearing from Graham.

Deservedly so Swansea took the lead minutes from half-time. Mata needlessly gave away a free-kick down Swansea's right and from the resulting cross, a poor header from Bosingwa fell straight to Scott Sinclair who delightfully hooked the ball high into Cech's net.

Fair play to the youngster. You could see he was busting to go mad, but he restrained his emotions out of respect to his old club and the travellling Blue hordes.

(ED. The home prawnies can learn an awful lot from the travellers!!!)

Chelsea's unbeaten start to 2012 continued when deep, deep into injury time Bosingwa skipped into the Swans area and hit a shot which took a wicked deflection off Taylor to leave Vorm stranded to give Chelsea an unlikely equaliser.

No service for Torres as usual....play too slow to get up to him and by then he's got 2-3 defenders tracking and covering him.

Why didn't he start Cahill and put Ivan out on the right? Presumably because he wanted the pace of Bos on the other side?
