The summer transfer window is about to officially open and the time has come when new faces are pictured holding up their new Chelsea shirts, smiling alongside the Chelsea coach (this time around a new one in the shape of Carlo Ancelotti). So what new touches need to be made to our squad and who do we need to let go? (Part 2 here)

Summary of possible outs then:

To Sell?

(40) Henrique Hilario

(2) Branislav Ivanovic

(6) Ricardo Carvalho

(17) Jose Bosingwa

(19) Paulo Ferreira

(35) Juliano Belletti

(20) Deco

(27) Mineiro

(21) Salomon Kalou

(11) Didier Drogba

Loaned out

(9) Franco Di Santo

(42) Michael Mancienne

Returned from loan

(18) Ricardo Quaresma

Scott Sinclair Jan 09

Beside transfer activity what about promoting from the reserve and youth ranks?

ON LOAN LAST SEASON:

Scott Sinclair             (Birmingham)

Michael Mancienne  (Wolves)

Lee Sawyer               (Wycombe Wanderers)

Shaun Cummings     (MK Dons)

Carl Magnay             (MK Dons)

Ryan Bertrand           (Norwich)

Jack Cork                  (Southampton/Watford)

Liam Bridcutt             (Watford)

Jimmy Smith             (Leyton Orient)

Fabio Ferreira          (Oldham)

Tom Taiwo                (Port Vale)

Claudio Pizarro        (Werder Bremen)

Ben Sahar                 (De Graafschap)

Andriy Shevchenko (Milán)

+ Others                     (PSV, FC Twente etc)

Of the above Sahar has been sold to Espanyol and the club are also looking to finalise the departures of Jimmy Smith, Claudio Pizarro (who had a fantastic season at Werder Bremen) and Andriy Shevchenko.  Sinclair seems shot of confidence and there have been rumours re a move to Bristol City.

Much depends of what Ancelotti thinks of the rest of our reserves and loanees  during pre-season.

Here are a few notes on some of them:

Scott Sinclair, 19, made 14 appearances (8 starts) for Birmingham City.  Has the potential to be as good at least as Walcott.  Would love to see Ancelotti “rescue” his situation.

Lee Sawyer, 19, scored once in 9 matches for promoted Wycombe Wanderers but he also turned out for Southend 13 times scoring three goals and also 2 appearances for Coventry City.

Shaun Cummings spent the entire season with MK Dons with an impressive 32 league appearances at right-back.

Carl Magnay made 2 sub appearances for MK Dons 1 for Northampton but injury plagued his season.  Plays like John Terry.

Ryan Bertrand, Norwich City

Ryan Bertrand played for Norwich last season and despite their relegation he played very well throughout the season with 38 appearances in the league as left-back.

Jack Cork spent the first half of the season at Southampton with 25 appearances and then onto Watford (19 apps) with former Chelsea reserve team manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liam Bridcutt played nine times for Watford and was seen by some Watford fans as being a bit ahead of his league – playing passes that would be normal at a higher level but too risky in the Championship!

Jimmy Smith scored once in 16 appearances for Leyton Orient.

Fabio Ferreira made a sub appearance for Oldham Athletic.

Tom Taiwo made five appearances for Port Vale – impressed but was returned to Chelsea when Vale changed manager.

RESERVES SQUAD

RESERVES

In the reserves there are others who might strike lucky by breaking into the first team this season - or continue where they are hoping to make the grade next time around.

Those that stand out are (in my humble opinion):

Sam Hutchinson – Came on late against Sunderland.

Jeffrey Bruma – Had an excellent season.  I’d be very surprised if we don’t see him trotting out onto the Stamford Bridge turf on Saturday afternoons in the future.

Michael Woods – midfielder in the “Scholes” mould.

Sergio Tejera – left-footer and very skilful.

Gael Kakuta – Watch out for this one!  Has the potential to be one of the clubs top players one day.  Suffered from injuries but he is extraordinarily skilful.  Some even felt he should have been given a run-out in the first team last season.

ACADEMY

Probably too early to break into the first-team squad this season but here are a few that have impressed:

Nikki Ahamed - Holding midfielder or right-back.

Gokhan Tore – Striker from Bayern Leverkusen.

Daniel Philliskirk – Signed from Oldham.  A second striker or attacking midfielder.

Jacapo Sala - An Italian Under 17 international.

Fabio Borini – Striker who has had a very good season.

Frank Nouble – Very strong and powerful for his age.  A striker in the mould of Heskey when he was young.
