Ancelotti move hinges on Champions League place for Milan

Reports in the media claim that we will finally know if Ancelotti is to be our next manager just after the final whistle at the San Siro for Milan’s match against Roma on Sunday. Apparently Milan suits want to delay any announcement with regard to their current manager until they are assured of Champions League qualification.

“If Milan beat Roma, therefore assuring a place in next season’s Champions League, we will reveal the coach on Monday,” said vice-president, Adriano Galliani.

“The club’s owner, Silvio Berlusconi, and I always agree on our decisions.

“There is no difference between the president and me and I hope I can make an announcement on Monday.”

So what if they don´t?!

What isn’t clear is what happens then if Milan DON´T qualify for Europe’s premier competition?  Does Ancelotti then have to stay to quell fan unrest and try and obtain a Champions League place next season?  Or would Milan wait until some form of future good news – such as a big player joining the club – before announcing Ancelotti´s departure to Stamford Bridge?

Milan are second in Serie A at the moment, three points clear of Juventus with two games left to play.

Fans not happy

Despite constant denials from the Italian himself, speculation has been rife that Ancelotti, 49, will leave the San Siro this summer – a proposition the majority of Chelsea fans don’t seem happy about.  Despite a reputation of producing teams playing good football and a willingness to blood youth, there are concerns about Ancelotti´s communication skills in English and the fact that he has never managed a club side outside of Serie A.

Carlo Ancelotti has again failed to clarify his future at Milan, telling a news conference in Italy that he is "100% staying" – but then adding: "I would love to coach Chelsea."

Speculation has been rife that Ancelotti will leave Milan for Chelsea, with the Rossoneri expected to make an announcement on his future on Monday.

"I am a little tired talking about these things," he told the conference. "I am Milan coach until 30 June 2010. I know how things are, I don't see things cloudy, I see everything very clearly. If you had to ask me to express in a percentage I would say that it's 100% certain that I will still be at Milan next year."

But Ancelotti then went on to say he would "love to coach Chelsea" and that "I am open to anything".

"A proper response on my future could be postponed by a matter of days or several years," he said. "At the moment I don't have anything open with Chelsea. I have not talked to them. I did last year, but not this year. [But] we still have the end of the season, and if we have to find a solution we will. I am open to anything. It's obvious that I would say yes if you ask me if I would love to coach Chelsea."

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, also failed to clarify his future, suggesting that Inter Milan need to sign more players to convince him to stay.

On Thursday Mourinho, who has led Inter to the Serie A title in his first season in charge, alarmed fans by responding to reports about his future and a possible move to Real Madrid by saying he was "99.9% certain" to stay. Yesterday he tried to explain the comment.

"I said 99.9% – which is better than 99%. Of course, though, 99.9 is different from 100. I must say there's a tiny bit of temptation. I'm not a person to hide such things."

Desailly won the 1994 Champions League trophy with Milan, before joining Chelsea four years later. The Frenchman believes a number of factors, including Ancelotti's limited grasp of English, does not make him the ideal candidate.

"I don't think Ancelotti will go to Chelsea," Desailly told Sky Sport Italia.

"I think AC Milan will qualify for the Champions League next year and I am not really sure he has the desire to come to Chelsea.

"He does not speak the language for a start, which is an obvious drawback."
