FA Youth Cup: Liverpool 1-0 The Academy
By Since66
February 6 2009
The FA Youth Cup run is over for this year as the Academy went the same way as the first team at a freezing cold Anfield last night. A goal on sixteen minutes from Liverpool's David Amoo put paid to any hopes of going one better than last season in a game that was dominated by both defences.

Having said that the likes of Big Frank, Gael, Fabio had an off night and as Dermot Drummy said after the game, "We didn't perform to our potential."

Dermot Drummy, Chelseas Under 16 Coach

Drummy, taking charge of his first game since his permanent appointment added, "Liverpool defended a lot better. Once they got the goal, we tried to force the game but they sat deep and that is easy for them. We've got to try to chase the game and they almost hit us a couple of times on the counter.

"We didn't really create enough chances for the ability we have got in the side. It is disappointing that we haven't performed and have probably been out fought.

"We just have to take it on the chin, take a look at ourselves and maybe get a bit more character."

The Academy are straight back into action on Saturday (weather permitting) at Cobham with a game against Charlton Athletic. The match kicks off at 11pm.

Liverpool: Dean Bouzanis, Andre Wisdom, Joe Kenneday (c), Daniel Ayala, Christopher Buchtmann, Adam Pepper (Alexander Kacaniklic 73), Steve Irwin, Thomas Ince, David Amoo, Lauri Dalle Valle, Nathan Eccleston.

Chelsea: Niclas Heimann, Nikki Ahamed, Rohan Ince (Marko Mitrovic 84), Jeffrey Bruma, Ben Gordon (Adam Phillip 44), Daniel Philliskirk (c), Gael Kakuta, Jacob Mellis (Conor Clifford 70), Jacopo Sala, Fabio Borini, Frank Nouble.

I would say Drummy´s assessment is pretty spot on.

Frustrating that our kids didn´t play as well as we know they can.

And what was Frank Nouble doing playing out wide most of the time?! (as en ex-forward myself (cough!) I know that that can be a good tactic of losing your marker and drifting back in to make it difficult to be picked up but he spent a lot of time out there).

Kakuta showed flashes but wasn´t himself, Bruma made a cock-up but impressed with his play and character afterwards.

Oh well...

So its a treble over you now. (Sm3)

Didn't see it myself. Did we score after a sending off?

You usually do (25% of games so far). Let´s face it - if you don´t win the league this season with all the help you´ve had then you never will!

Can you imagine it?

Herds of whining scousers screeching with glee, sychophantic biased media with reams of coverage that lasts for months and months -just too much to bear (especially with all the help they´ve had from officials this season). All of this would no doubt be followed up by god knows how many ceremonys and balck arm bands to milk past events for all their worth -all in order to say "Look at us! We are the best fans in the world!"

AAAAAaaarrrrrrgghhhh!

Vomit inducing!

I would rather the Mancs win it a 3rd time in succession - as much as that hurts to say.

Don´t have to be psychic to guess what it would be like IF you did actually manage to win it!

I think that both our clubs inconsistancies will only serve to hand the Mancs the title on a plate anyway.

It would be something just amazing if we sneaked it,ta be honest you would be so wrong if we did win it you would not see any from our board coming on here or anywhere else giving it large. Well apart from the mancs board anyway...(Sm127)

You's should learn from us how ta celebrate win or lose with style...(Sm14)

Difficult with the mancs with that xtra gear when they need it, there looking hard ta knock off that mantle. all us need ta do is keep there with em until they make a mistake if poossible.

I wasn´t really referring to your board but your support and the media in general.

As for losing and winning in style... Lol! There have been plenty of threads full of bitter exchanges (go back and have a look for yourself - Last season CL against Arsenal springs to mind).

The Mancs are probably the best of a bad bunch with only yourselves havng improved frrom last season.

And of course, winning 1-0 now apparently is acceptable for their fans and the media (remember the slating we used to get for doing that? One paper even offered a reward for the next player to score against us!) We are used to the hypocrosiy by now though.
