Cuducini: Scolari says no and Redknapp in denial
By dixon9

Big Phil Scolari is reported to have blocked any possibility of a transfer of Carlo Cuducini to Tottenham Hotspurs. The Daily Mail reported that the Chelsea goalkeeper was to move across London to White Hart Lane in an "exclusive" report late yesterday evening. Harry Redknapp has also denied making a bid for Cudicini.

"I don't know anything about Cudicini," said Redknapp today.

The Mail claimed that Spurs had offered £1million for Cudicini whose contract ends this summer and that the deal had been accepted by Chelsea.

CUDUCINI

Reports that Scolari had blocked the move did not contain any direct quotes from the Brazilian but with little in the way of experienced back-up for Cech it seemed dubious that the club would let Cuducini leave in January.

The report gathered some substance as Redknapp is not perceived to trust Gomes and his no.2 keeper, Cesar Sanchez, is being shipped off to Valencia.  The 3rd choice is the still short of experience Ben Alnwick who played in place of Gomes in this evenings League Cup semi-final against Burnley.

The supposed move had been met with a reaction of incredulation that the club could let a respected player go to our north London rivals although the rivalry is in football terms more historical and largely based on mutual hatred these days.  That said, many fans acknowledged that Cuducini more than deserved to see out his playing days actually playing rather than sitting on the bench.

Chelsea have made no denial of the transfer on the official website although that is in line with policy not to comment officially unless in extreme circumstances.

If Cuducini leaves I can’t see it happening until the summer – unless there already a good replacement lined up.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out for the signature of Carlo Cudicini. Chelsea insist that the Italian goalkeeper is not for sale and that they will hold him to his contract that expires in the summer, but may change their minds if they are able to raise considerable funds following a bidding war.

Cudicini has not yet decided to end a nine-year stay at Stamford Bridge, but is willing to listen to offers. The Italian’s £60,000-a-week wages could prove a problem however, particularly for Tottenham, as the club would be reluctant to offer such a sum to a player who would essentially be a reserve.

Harry Redknapp has resolved to keep Heurelho Gomes as his first-choice goalkeeper until the end of the season when he is likely to be sold, leaving City as favourites to sign Cudicini after failing to get Shay Given away from Newcastle United.
